FINDING OREGON breaks 500,000 views on Vimeo.

I was excited when filmmakers Ben, John, and Steve from Uncage The Soul Productions wanted to use a composition of mine, originally written for my licensing agency, Sonic Librarian. The result – remixed and renamed “Oregon Mist” - is the musical driver of this stunning visual project, FINDING OREGON.

From this production, I am offering a mini-collection of “Oregon Mist” in various remixes - plus one bonus song of a similar style. And please sign up for the mailing list. Thanks. ~ Michael Nelson Rizzo

2011 NEWS

FALL-WINTER
// It's been a great year! Here's a quick list of some recent projects : Adidas, DuPont, Simon Tucker Group, Jaymes Vaughan, Uncage The Soul, Dave's Killer Bread, Nature Bake, The Sing Off and other TV credits I can't remember at the moment.  Oh and check out Jaymes Vaughan's music video of our clubby song, "Vampire."  DISCLAIMER: It's a bit naughty. SPECIAL NOTE TO MY MOM: I just write and produce the songs/artists. I can't control what they do with them later. :-)

SPRING-SUMMER  //

  • Katy Harmon (a recent Miss America) was in the studio for a session with Tim Ellis producing. I played piano with a full band being recorded live. It's been a long time to record a full session with all the players at the same time. I NEVER get a chance to play a whole song down. Fun!
  • Bob Stark and got a little press about a local issue with Mt Hood Comm. College
  • I moved upstairs into the A room of Kung Fu Bakery Recording Studios. KFB is considered the best room between Seattle and LA. I'm pretty stoked to be surrounded by such good company and gear! :)
  • Some pretty cool things going on at the studio that we can't talk about. (OK, now we can. Esperenza Spalding was in the studio with Bob Stark.)
  • New credits and placements but I don't yet know what they are! Waiting on the cues sheets.
  • Working with Brad Hooper on some hot new blues, rock tracks. This dude is like Ry Cooder.
  • Working on new music with Emmaline - stay tuned.
FEB // NEWS and PLACEMENTS
  • I wrote a column called "The Art Of Sellable Music" for international music website, www.Bandzoogle.com - it had over 1000 views within 2 weeks and will now be a featured column on their site. It is now being reblogged. JOIN THE LIST and stay tuned for more developments.
  • On the heels of that post, I also launched my own blog. Check it out at www.EpicSoulBlog.com
  • Epic Soul Music Group will be changing to Epic Soul Music Family (ESMF). It better portrays the position I want to have.
  • ESMF is proud to be working with Childrens Cancer Association on some cool music initiatives!! JOIN THE LIST and stay tuned for this exciting collaboration.
  • Jaymes was on "Ellen."
  • New placement on Jimmy Fallon, Detroit 157, Cold Case, Chuck and Celebrity Apprentice. Thanks to Erik our #1 agent-publisher in Hollywood.
JAN // NEWS and PLACEMENTS
  • Jaymes, one of my artists, opened for the main FOX pre-game show at the SuperBowl.  Stay tuned for some great things happening in his career.
  • I'm supposed to write some new cuts for some video game trailers.
  • At request, we pitched some black gospel music for shows on CBS.
  • I'm busy writing music for some new promos for some network TV shows.
  • Disney asked for some custom trailer music for a couple of their new movies coming out.
  • I wrote some Kompa music for a Haitian documentary.  Never heard of that style of music before.
JAN // Launching The NEW EpicSoul Music Library mid-2011

After years of waiting, I'll be releasing my music library filled with Award-Winning music I've written for scoring projects through the years. I managed to keep the copyrights and now have well over 2000 quality pieces - when it's all said and done.  Think you have music cool enough to submit?  Signup for the EpicSoul mailing list first and then contact me.  We'll be adding other quality composers and artists to this library as time goes on. Stay tuned.

2010 NEWS

NOV // Jaymes Vaughan : A Star In The Making

Jaymes and I go way back. Like 10 years! He's come a long way baby - and this year he felt ready to really do his own thing as an artist - in a big way. So he flew up in November and we wrote two new "clubby" songs.

Jaymes has been a headliner in various Vegas shows and was voted "SEXIEST MAN IN VEGAS 2010." Currently, he has the attention of club owners, promoters, TV producers and quite a few players in the biz. There is some pretty cool stuff going on so stay tuned.

OCT // An Invite For A Steve Carrel Movie

Epic Soul was invited by our Hollywood music licensing super-publisher Erik (he rocks) to submit songs for the next Steve Carrel film.

I wanted to crank out two new songs and so I asked the amazing Sutton Sorensen to co-write and sing. We'll have to wait and see what happens but they are great songs.

OCT // Oldies But Goodies For Warner Bros.

Epic Soul was asked (thanks Erik!) to submit songs that sounded like they were from 1949 for a forthcoming Warner Bros film. So I asked my musical bro Matt Voth, to help me write them. He sang one and I sang one but we co-wrote both of them. Now it's just "hurry up and wait."

OCT // Custom For Network TV

Epic Soul "super-agent," Erik, snagged some custom work from ABC for Castle where they wanted the old disco song "Do The Hustle" made into a more modern version with some "Do The Castle" sang instead.  Yeah, sort of cheesy with the vocals but the spot was actually pretty cool looking and I was happy with the track.  It was sort of clubby and synthy and disco - all at the same time.

We also were asked to do music for Detroit 187 and so I ended up co-writing with Matt Voth, my musical bro and we wrote this funky little jam.  Matt is a bad ass!

Earlier In The Year

Yes, there is a lot of stuff I WISH I would have written about but here is a quick recap: wrote tons of music, spoke at a college, wrote some cool funky ad tunes with Kim Mont, put together a new team to help build a new model for the music business, wrote tons of music, moved into a new studio facility, lived at the beach for the summer, met some amazing people, wrote tons of music, made some great music from cinematic to funk to jazz to pop to club, performed my own artist songs at some garden parties over the summer, wrote tons of music, got some cool placements of my music, I got my music library ready for launching...OK...I think that's enough.
